Known for their incredible agility and distinctive 'tear marks,' these sleek predators are built for the hunt. At Barbosa K&K, we provide them with the expansive territory they need to thrive, ensuring they maintain their wild instincts within a protected environment.
The Cheetah
Conservation Status: Vulnerable
With fewer than 7,000 cheetahs remaining in the wild, habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict are their greatest threats. Our breeding project specifically addresses genetic diversity to prevent the total disappearance of this majestic species from the African landscape.
The Caracal
Known for their distinctive tufted ears and remarkable jumping ability, caracals are masters of the African savanna. These medium-sized cats are solitary and secretive, using their powerful hind legs to leap over three meters in the air to snatch birds mid-flight.
Despite their adaptability, caracals face ongoing threats from habitat loss and human-wildlife conflict. Our sanctuary provides a safe haven for displaced individuals, focusing on rehabilitation and educating local communities about coexistence with these unique predators.
The Serval
The serval is a slender, medium-sized cat native to Africa, known for its remarkably long legs and large ears. These physical traits allow them to detect and hunt small prey in tall grasses with owl-like precision, often jumping over 2 meters into the air to catch birds or flush rodents from the ground.
Despite their adaptability, servals face significant habitat loss due to agricultural expansion and wetland degradation. Their striking coats also make them targets for the illegal skin trade, while their specialized hunting grounds are increasingly fragmented by human encroachment.
The Ocelot
Known for their striking chain-like spot patterns, ocelots are secretive masters of the dense South African brush. These nocturnal hunters rely on complex habitats, from thick woodlands to riverine forests, where they play a vital role in balancing local ecosystems through their specialized predatory nature.
Habitat fragmentation remains the greatest threat to their survival. At Barbosa K&K, we protect key ecological corridors and provide specialized enclosures that mimic their native terrain, ensuring these magnificent cats have the space and safety they need to thrive beyond the reach of human encroachment.
